Did America betray Russia and Europe to devote itself to China?

Are Russia and Europe the Biggest Losers? Has America Betrayed Them to Focus on China?

Believe it or not, Ukrainian forces are making significant advances into Russian-influenced territories, while Russia’s conflict with Europe intensifies. Both sides brace for a harsh winter, but it might be the United States that ultimately benefits the most from this turmoil.

Ukraine’s Advances and Russia’s Setbacks

The Ukrainian military is pushing eastward, targeting the Donbas region, the stronghold of pro-Russian separatists. This marks Russia’s largest defeat since its failed attempt to capture Kyiv in early 2022. Supported by advanced American weaponry, Ukraine’s progress has forced Russian troops to retreat, a fact Moscow admits but seems to underestimate.

The European Energy Crisis: Russia’s Counterattack

While Ukraine gains ground militarily, Russia is retaliating on another front—Europe’s energy supplies. Facing sanctions, Moscow has cut off or heavily taxed energy exports to Europe, threatening a difficult winter and economic strain for many European countries. This backlash challenges the assumption that Russia’s war is solely against Ukraine or Europe—it’s also a direct confrontation with the United States.

The Bigger Picture: America’s Strategic Focus on China

According to reports, the ongoing conflict serves Washington’s broader goal: to weaken Russia and prevent it from rising as a global power, thereby focusing more attention on China’s growing influence. Some analysts argue that the U.S. provoked Russia into the Ukrainian quagmire, using Kyiv as a proxy to drain Moscow’s resources.

Endless War and Global Realignments

The war in Ukraine may not be resolved quickly. Even if Russia manages to stabilize the front, tensions with the West could shift to new battlegrounds, possibly in the Baltics or Scandinavia. America’s strategy appears to be to keep Russia engaged in prolonged conflict, delaying its recovery and influence.

Meanwhile, Europe faces its own dilemmas. Initially reluctant to confront China, Europe’s economic ties to Beijing through projects like the Belt and Road Initiative complicate its position. The U.S., responding by forming exclusive alliances like the AUKUS pact (excluding Europe), seems to be sidelining its traditional European partners to better confront China.

China’s Role: Balancing Moscow and Washington

Despite appearances, China is closely watching the situation. Beijing knows that a weakened Russia could become vulnerable, possibly to U.S. pressure next. Hence, China maintains a careful balance—supporting Moscow enough to keep it afloat without fully committing to the conflict.
